The art of journaling is probably one of the most under rated but simple and profound personal development techniques that anyone could ever do. It is the simplicity of the method that is the main reason why people often overlook this powerful tool. The sheer act of writing out all your thoughts, emotions and concerns onto paper literally gets them out of you to a place where they can be acknowledged and examined from a totally different and often new perspective.

Much has been written and reported about remote viewing on the internet in the last few years some of it accurate and some of it just plain nonsense. I personally trained a s a remote viewer in the United States back in 1996 and because of that I feel I can add some authenticity to this topic. Firstly most people have by now some knowledge that the CIA developed the use of extra-sensory perception to augment their intelligence collection capabilities during the cold war.

It is an important premise of cognitive psychology that the we get more of whatever we focus on. In fact where we place our awareness has an effect on our lives in a big way. If we choose to focus on pessimistic thinking or negative aspects of our lives then we will only increase these feelings and compound them. Vice versa, we can make a choice to focus on what is good about ourselves and our lives and that way positive aspects of ourselves will become enhanced and then stronger and stronger as a result.

As a therapist one of the most interesting books that I have personally read in the last ten years has to be 'Emotional Intelligence' by Daniel Golman, himself a psychologist. This was a book that was long overdue in coming in my humble opinion. It gets right down to the real reasons why people succeed (or fail) which has nothing to do with their education or social background by the way.

One way we can use to build the life that we want and desire is to create the future in our minds before hand. If we take this one step further we could actually step out into the future, at least as it appears to us subjectively anyway, and look back to see what happened to produce that future. Sort of like reverse-engineering the future. When people have done this exercise, correctly might I add, many have increased their income two to three fold, seriously, i'm not kidding.
